The Moscow Municipal Court on Tuesday will consider the appeal of the verdict that was handed down regarding Russian-Armenian businessman Levon Hayrapetyan, who has been convicted on charges of embezzling $700 thousand and sentenced to four years in prison.

The respective hearing had been postponed to further examine the arguments of the appeal, reported TASS news agency of Russia.

At the same time, Hayrapetyan’s attorney had submitted to the appellate court several petitions requesting the imposing of a sentence other than imprisonment for him.

In addition, the attorneys have noted that the businessman is also a philanthropist, and he has done numerous charities.

Levon Hayrapetyan was initially imprisoned, but subsequently, his restraining order was commuted to house arrest. In September of the year past, however, the investigator released him on the condition that he does not to leave Russia, since the maximum period of detention prescribed by law had ended.
