YEREVAN. – If Armenia were to have a better-quality road infrastructure, Iranian businessmen would delightfully use this transit route leading to Central Europe and the Black Sea.

Gagik Beglaryan, Minister of Transport and Communication, told the above-said to reporters, after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

In his words, the issue at hand is that the concrete motorway, which starts from Agarak town in the Syunik Province, is being replaced by an asphalt road so that this section of the Agarak-Sisian motorway would be ready for use right away.

“This is the most difficult section,” said the minister. “And its operation will enable to cut down the road by 70 kilometers, which is 2.5 hours, in terms of time.”

Beglaryan added that if the motorway until Yeraskh village in the Ararat Province is repaired, Iranian cargo carriers will be able to continue transporting goods via the railway that passes through the Georgian Black Sea coast.
