German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged to suspend negotiations on Turkey's accession to the EU.

Merkel's allies consider that in the light of mass arrests and dismissals in Turkey after the coup attempt, the Turkish authorities violate the rule of law, Reuters reported.

According to the leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Horst Seehofer, when it is obvious that Turkey neglected the rule of law, negotiations on its membership in the EU must be stopped immediately.

 “No democratic constitutional state acts like this,” he said.
