“The prearranged PR action in question, is pursing rather suspicious motives,” press service of the Border Service, Russian Federal Security Service in Armenia told NEWS.am, commenting on Turkish politicians’ illegal crossing of the border along the River Akhuryan.

According to the Federal Security Service, the Turkish mass media’s publications and the politicians’ statements contain misleading notions. “Despite Turkish politicians from “Strong Turkey” Party (GTP) speak of their good intentions in the light of Armenia-Turkey reconciliation, they flout the legislation of their own country. To implement good intentions, committing a criminal offense, particularly crossing the state border illegally, is impossible,” the press service said.

“Following the Turkish media’s publications, additional investigation was conducted in the mentioned section of Armenia-Turkey state border. The site investigation showed, the photos of Turkish politicians are taken on the Turkish side of the border in the region of ruins of Ani,” the press service reported.

The Border Service provided NEWS.am a number of photographs to prove inadequacy of Turkish politician’s statements on crossing the closed Armenia-Turkey border.

The first three pictures clearly show that the mesh fencing is on the opposite side of the river, that is on Turkish territory (Armenian-Turkish border runs through the middle of the river). It is precisely this mesh fence, as insisted by the representatives of the Turkish party, they had crossed (picture 4). Also, one of them (far to the left) is leaning to the post at the same grid. Moreover, the photographs of this section of the Armenian-Turkish border show the ruins of the ancient Armenian capital of Ani (now located in Turkey). The ruins are in the background of the same fence which is entirely located on Turkish territory. As for the Turkish media photos (photo 5), at which representatives of the “Strong Turkey” allegedly crossed the river, according to the Russian Border Service in Armenia, the water depth is at least 1.5meters (five feet) deep, which proves that no one crossed the river, especially wearing suites, and the pictures are made in Turkey.
