Georgia’s Akhalkalaki Police Chief Shalva Lomsadze, who is Georgian, has been dismissed.

The reason for his sacking is the complaints brought against him by the residents of Armenian-populated Khando village, near Akhalkalaki town in Georgia’s Samtskhe-Javakheti region, who were questioned in connection with the August 28 murder of fellow villager Seda Spertsyan, 79.

The Khando residents maintain that they were subjected to threats and violence during questioning.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned that, aside from the Akhalkalaki police chief, his deputy, the criminal investigator, and several officers of the local police also are dismissed.

According to the Khando residents, Lomsadze’s sacking is linked not solely to their complaints, but to other unlawful actions he had carried out during his tenure.

As reported earlier, the murder victim was living alone, and her son resides in Russia.
