174 new jails will be built in Turkey, there being no room for arrestees in the existing jails after the attempted coup, RIA Novosti reports, citing Hurriyet.

The new jails will have a room for about 100,000 arrestees.

The Turkish Justice Ministry is getting complaints from prisoners, who have to share  between six people a prison cell designed for three. According to the Ministry, the number of the arrestees currently exceeds the capacities of the Turkish penitentiary system.

The military coup attempt took place on the night of July 16. 246 Turkish citizens died and over 2,000 got wounded. The uprising was suppressed.
