Today Armenia marks the Day of the Armenian Press. On October 16, 1794 the first Armenian magazine “Azdarar” (Reporter) was published in the city of Madras, India.
The monthly outlet was published from October 1794 to March 1796 by Harutyun Shmavonian. Eighteen issues depicting trade, economic and political news, as well as novels, translations and historical articles were published.
In commemoration of this day Armenian Government decided to mark the Day of Press Worker further renamed a Day of the Armenian Press.
