The parliamentary majority, including the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), is not nor does it plan to hold any consultations with the Heritage Party on the bill on recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), the RPA Board member Samvel Nikoyan told NEWS.am.

“Any consultations or compromise are out of the question. The best compromise is if the Heritage Party does not put the bill to the vote in Parliament. We have proposed this to them and do not have any other proposals,” Nikoyan sad. He pointed out that the parliamentary discussions of the bill had numerous negative consequences, and anything worse can hardly be expected. As to whether the RPA plans to vote against the document, Nikoyan said; “When the document is put to the vote, the RPA all act most effectively. Everyone will make sure of this after the vote.” He did not divulge the secret of “effectiveness.”

At the parliamentary discussions of the bill on recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh, Chairman of the RPA faction Galust Saakyan proposed that the Herotage Party postpone the vote on the bill for the parliamentary forces to reach a consensus. Specifically, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) proposed that all the parliamentary forces sign the bill and leave it on the agenda. The ARF-D promised to vote for the document. The parliamentarians succeeded in persuading the Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan into postponing the vote until the next four-day session of the Parliament, which is to begin on October 25. However, Chairman of the Heritage faction Styopa Safaryan told NEWS.am that the parliamentary majority has not so far presented any proposals. So keeping its promise, the party will put the bill to the vote during the next four-day session.

The parliamentary majority believes the Heritage Party’s initiative may affect the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process within the OSCE Minsk Group.
