YEREVAN. – Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian on Friday issued a statement, whereby he welcomed the French Senate’s passing of the proposed law that criminalizes the denial of Armenian Genocide.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the statement reads as follows:

“We welcome the French Senate’s adoption of the provision on criminalization the denial of the Armenian Genocide in the bill, approved by the National Assembly back in summer.

With this step France once again re-confirms its significant role in condemning genocides committed in the past and fighting against denialism, as well as preventing possible new crimes against humanity.”

As earlier reported, the Senate of France on Friday passed, by a vote of 156 for and 146 against, the bill that criminalizes the denial of Armenian Genocide; that is, the amended version of the Citizenship and Freedom Law of the country.
