The leader of Turkish oppositional “Strong Turkey” party (GTP) Tuna Beklevic, famous for “crossing” the Armenia-Turkey state border, arrived in Kars and brought with him a ballot-box for a referendum.

The GTP leader and head of the party’s provincial office in Kars Gultegin Dundar organized a press conference and discussed their further plans. The politicians said they will put a ballot box in Kars centre and give an opportunity to local residents to say “yes” or “no” to the border opening, Turkish Sondakika website reports.

Beklevic recalled, on the occasion of 1st anniversary of Armenia-Turkey Protocols signing in Switzerland, he and his party fellows crossed the Armenian Turkey border symbolically. According to him, they took such a step to establish peace and maintain fraternity. By crossing the border we started “Zurich part 2”, he said.

“We made another move forward and brought a ballot box, which will be placed in the city centre and enable the citizens to freely express their will. I am sure people in Kars will say “yes” to border opening.

The politician emphasized they have been engaged in the normalization process for 6 months. They paid a 4-day visit to Armenia and met with representatives of 40 NGOs.

“We will soon visit Armenia, hold meetings with representatives of Armenian Foreign Ministry and later present our observations and remarks on the border opening at Turkish Foreign Ministry.” Beklevic noted.
