Armenian PM Karen Karapetyan doesn’t understand why the gas price reduction is connected with election campaign and why such an issue is raised at all.

Instead of looking for another motivation behind this step, he suggests assessing it from another standpoint: is that good or bad for the country?

Karapetyan said the aforementioned at the meeting with journalists in Karabakh on Saturday.

“What motivation? Do you think we wouldn’t do that if there were no elections? No, this is not made as a pre-election step. I assumed the post of the prime minister one month and a half ago and it crossed my mind to do such a thing. My first targeted function is to activate the economy. If there are people who want to comment this as pre-electoral step, let them do so. Even if this is done as a pre-electoral step, is this good or bad?” he said.

In the PM’s words, the elections to be held in six months indeed impede his government.

“The pre-election period is not active in any country. The situation is expectant: business expects, the society expects. I’ve already said that it is utterly important to have a feedback with the society so that the latter believes in us, since we can change nothing in a country where there are no working people and businessmen with political views,” he said.

Asked whether this is a six-month government, the PM said: “If I say I have come for six months, will you respect me?”
