YEREVAN. – Armenia national football squad captain and Manchester United (England) midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on Wednesday was appointed United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Goodwill Ambassador, in capital city Yerevan.
As a result, Mkhitaryan will help UNICEF in promoting children’s right to an education, and raise awareness about the rights of the neediest children in Armenia.
This appointment was made on the occasion of the UNICEF 70th anniversary, which will be observed in December.
“I’m confident that, [together] with UNICEF, we can stand with the children,” the Armenia international said at the event. “UNICEF is one of the unique organizations that stand with the children in such a way.
“The main focus of my cooperation with UNICEF will be the education sector. We will take active steps so that good opportunities are created for each child.”
