The exhibition entitled “Armenian church in Lviv (1991-2016)” kicked off in the Lviv Museum of Religious History on Friday.

The exposition was held under the auspices of the Lviv Historical Museum, Scientific Library of I. Franko Lviv National University, the Union of Armenians of Ukraine (UAU) and ‘Aghbyur’ Armenian community of Lviv, AnalitikaUA.net reports, citing the UAU press-service.

Leader of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop  Markos Hovhannesyan, Archbishop and Metropolit of Lviv, Igor Voznyak, head of the Culture Department of Lviv City Council, Mikhail Moroz,  Chairman of ‘Aghbyur’ Armenian community of Lviv, Avetis Sarajyan, as well as representatives of clergy, intelligentsia, and Armenian community of Lviv and Dnepr, etc.

In his opening speech, Bishop Marko Hovhannisyan noted that the exposition is indicative of the rich spiritual heritage of the Ukraine Armenians.   The exhibition curator Anastasia Kamaldinova, who is the senior research assistant of Lviv Museum of Religious History, noted: “We tried to elucidate the events of the beginning of Christianization in Armenia and show that this county was the first to adopt Christianity as a state religion. Armenian book-printing is also important, thus we presented books to cover this page of history as well. The photos displayed at the exhibition tell about the history of Lviv Cathedral.”

During the presentation of the exhibition, liturgical choir Saghmos of the Armenian Cathedral of Lviv performed before those gathered.
