YEREVAN. - My joining the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and election in its executive board is indicative of high confidence and responsibility.

Defense Minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan said the aforementioned Saturday, at a press conference following the 16th Congress of the RPA.

The Minister stressed that it is a great honor for him to enjoy the confidence of his old friends and get elected in the party’s executive board right after joining the RPA.

“I consider this as a sign of a very high confidence and responsibility, since in the context of the reforms in the framework of our current legislation and on the basis of constitutional changes, I think the activity in the party gets a deeper significance, the strengthening of parties becoming a very important component of forming political culture.  Consequently, I feel great responsibility by joining not only the majority party but also its executive board,” Sargsyan concluded.

As a result of the open voting at the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Executive Board elections that were conducted during Saturday’s 16th RPA congress in capital city Yerevan, 21 members were included in the executive body of this political force.

Some of these members are: RPA Chairman and President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan; President of the National Assembly, Galust Sahakyan; Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan; Minister of Defense, Vigen Sargsyan; Minister of Justice, Arpine Hovhannisyan; Minister of Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan; and Mayor of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan.
