YEREVAN. - The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) remains the most important player of the country’s political life.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, told the aforementioned to reporters on Saturday, after the 16th Congress of the RPA.

He also presented the five key messages of the Congress:

1. RPA confirmed that it is a national conservative party and that it is for the reforms through which it is necessary to make changes in the country;

2. Political construction is very important: it is necessary to reveal the shortcomings, enhance the ties between territorial and regional agencies and ordinary party members.That is our strength;

3. The recent self-government elections proved that despite the problems and shortcomings, RPA remains the most important player of the country’s political life. RPA will continue maintaining and multiplying the existing political capital till the parliamentary elections of 2017;

4. RPA will continue enhancing the ties with other parties, the indication of this being the presence of the representatives of the political forces of Russia, Europe and China at the Congress;

5. In connection with the Karabakh conflict, the President noted that our goal is not to occupy Baku but to reach peaceful settlement of the conflict in the OSCE Minsk Group format and through the free expression of will of the Nagorno-Karabakh people.
