YEREVAN. - The enlargement of the political parties of Armenia is inevitable, but this should be done in a natural way.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Eduard Sharamazanov, who is also the spokesperson for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), stated the aforementioned in the parliament Monday.

According to him, equal conditions should be created for all the parties, regardless of their size or the fact of their being represented in the parliament. Equal conditions and competition are golden rules of democracy, the Deputy Speaker said.

He also attached importance to the fact that liberalization in the process of party registration is the path taken in all the post-soviet countries. Founding congress and party registration in Russia—which has a 150 million population—requires gathering only 40,000 people.

In Sharmazanov's words, Armenia follows the same path. It is proposed to reduce the minimal number of the party members required for registration from 2,000 to 1000. Apart from this, if a party now has to have at least one department in each region and capital, it is henceforth proposed to soften this requirement as well. It will be necessary to have at least one department but only in 1/3 regions and in Yerevan.

''But the liberalization should be moderate,'' the Deputy Speaker added, recalling Socrates, who called moderation the highest virtue.
