President of the European Council Donald Tusk stated that Georgia deserves timely decision to cancel visas for Georgian citizens entering EU.

He stated the aforementioned after the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili Thursday, RIA Novosti reports.

“When it comes to visa-free travel for Georgians, all Member States confirmed last October the assessment that Georgia has met all the required benchmarks. We are now working hard on the EU side, and I want to underline only on the EU side because this is now only our internal problem,” Tusk told reporters.

In his words, “Georgia deserves a timely and positive finalization of this process.”

Permanent representatives of EU countries earlier gave the European Council a mandate for holding talks with the European Parliament on cancelling the entrance visa regime for Ukrainian and Georgian citizens for a period of 90 days within 180 days.

Earlier, the European Parliament had given an analogous mandate to its representatives.
