YEREVAN. – Creation of the Armenian-Russian joint troops is a part of the attempt to eliminate the upsetting of the balance that existed until April, Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan, stated at a press conference on Monday.
In his words, Armenia does not particularly have an alternative for ensuring its security.
“The European Union ensures our security through NATO, whereas Turkey is a NATO member,” said Iskandaryan. “It’s impossible to replace the operating security system with another.”
As per the analyst, the setting up of the aforesaid joint troops is a result of normal cooperation between Armenia and Russia.
“[But] it can’t directly relate to [Nagorno-]Karabakh [(Artsakh)], since it’s another state,” added Alexander Iskandaryan. “The [respective] agreement was signed between Armenia and the Russian Federation, but it’s absolutely clear that Armenia ensures the security of Karabakh.”
