YEREVAN. – Gyumri, Armenia's second largest city, has a potential to become the capital of Armenia’s tourism, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan said in the parliament on Wednesday.

Armenia's municipalities have to submit development programs by the end of December, and the program of Gyumri will be the focus, he said.

“We went to Gyumri today. We held consultations in the IT center. It is no coincidence. We want to show that life goes on, you have to get out of the state of mourning and look to the future. And we agreed with the Mayor that youth would present programs of urban development, so that those who arrive in Gyumri by low cost airlines could not to hurry to leave for Yerevan, but to stay in the city,” PM added.

He explained that Gyumri is an old town, and there is a fantastic opportunity to attract people.

“There are no specific funds for the program, but we will seek business initiatives consistently,” Karapetyan added.
