The arms control system in Europe does not meet today's reality, and it must be reorganized, said the German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier at the closing plenary session of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Hamburg, reports RIA Novosti.

"The arms control system, which has long served as an anchor of stability, peace, and security for Europe, has become fragile. It no longer meets today's political, military, and technological realities. We need to take measures to ensure greater symmetry and confidence, "said Steinmeier, adding that these changes will lead to greater security for everyone.

Earlier, the German Foreign Minister in his article published in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung urged to sign a new agreement on arms control in Europe, to prevent the new arms’ race between Russia and NATO.
