The OSCE Ministerial Council meeting has ended without the adoption of a final statement.

At the final session, the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who is also the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, only presented the declaration of the OSCE Troika (Germany, Austria, Italy) and his own concluding statement, TASS reports.

Last time the OSCE Ministerial Council adopted a declaration in 2002.

The disseminated communiqué of the Troika stresses the readiness to continue the work started by Steinmeier towards re-launching the dialogue regarding the control over arms.

Apart from this, the document mentions the need for strengthening the capacities of the OSCE in the area of conflict settlement. Among new challenges terrorism, radicalization and forced extremism, as well as cyber crime and migration are named.

In his final statement as an OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Steinmeier reiterated that the existing system of control over arms trafficking in Europe doesn’t correspond to modern realias and needs to be reconsidered. In his words, the new architecture must be built so that it can ensure everyone’s security.

Steinmeier also noted that those who think that it is possible to respond to many challenges, such as international terrorism, at the national level, are mistaken.
