YEREVAN. - Department of Especially Important Cases of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has completed the preliminary investigation of the criminal case related to the organization of uprising in Yerevan’s Nubarashen criminal-executive institution. Consequently, charges have been brought against 14 persons.  

On 3 May 2016, upon the decision of the court, the police were going to make a search in prison cell No 48 in the third building of Nubarashen. Learning about the planned search from the talks of other prisoners, criminal authority Armen Aleksanyan, who was kept in that cell, incited them to organize an upheaval. The prisoners taking part in the revolt burnt cell doors, threw burning pillows and mattresses into the corridor, insulted the prison workers, broke the doors of cells by feet and broke open the keystore. They also broke the furniture and used violence against one of the prison workers.

The riot participants have been identified. Armen Aleksanyan has been charged under Article 225 (1) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Another thirteen participants face charges under Article 225 (2) of the Criminal Code. The case has been transferred to the court.
