The link between Nikolay Bordyuzha’s statement and his resignation as Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General is rather artificial.

Russian political scientist Alexander Khramchikhin expressed such a view commenting, at the request of Armenian News-NEWS.am, on the statement by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, and which the Azerbaijani media had disseminated.

Aliyev had stated, “The persons, who were heading the CSTO to this day, have simply made a big political mistake by expressing a pro-Armenian stance and unacceptable thoughts. Today, their fate is known to us all.”

“The Azerbaijani media are free to comment on this statement as they want,” said Khramchikhin. “No one will deny it, or prove anything.”

The matter refers to then OSCE Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha’s harsh statement regarding the Azerbaijani diversionary infiltration attempt on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, on December 29, 2016.

Even though Bordyuzha’s resignation from the position of OSCE Secretary General was long planned, it was postponed for technical reasons.

Late last year, however, the duties of OSCE Secretary General were temporarily transferred to Bordyuzha’s deputy Valery Semerikov, and Azerbaijan perceived this as a “heavenly sign.”
