YEREVAN. – If some organizations wish to purchase 25 percent of Georgia’s natural gas pipeline, let them do so, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan of Armenia noted at his press conference on Friday.

He assured that Armenia’s energy security will not at all suffer from this purchase, and, on the contrary, energy security is higher in Armenia than in many European countries.

“Do we have to work towards [energy] security? Certainly,” added Karapetyan. “But there is no [respective] threat at this point. There is no threat even if they [i.e. the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR)] wish to buy this 25 percent; this is not the controller package.

“And there can be a gas pipeline accident in any case, but there always will be gas in our homes. After the [19]90s, there has been no incident that it was otherwise. So, don’t worry; everything will be fine.”

The Premier added, however, that Armenia continues to discuss, with Iran and Turkmenistan, the chances for having a dual natural gas route, in an emergency.
