The meeting of the UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Carole Mary Crofts and Deputy Prime Minister-Chairman of State Committee for Refugees andInternally Displaced Persons, Ali Hasanov, was private and not subject to publication, the comment of the UK Ambassador to Armenia Judith Farnworth in response to the query of Armenian News – NEWS.am reads.

According to the Azerbaijani media outlets, which disseminated the official press-release, the UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Carole Mary Crofts allegedly stated that “Armenia retains status quo in Karabakh issue.”

The comment of the UK Ambassador to Armenia reads, in particular: “We understand this was a private meeting. We can confirm that there has been no change in UK policy towards the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. We remain convinced that negotiation is the only path to lasting peace; and that, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs, the sides should pursue a peace settlement constructively and intensively through reinvigorated negotiations and implementation of agreed confidence-building measures.”

Thus, what the British diplomat actually said still remains unclear.
