Activists of the French Baobab association, which deal with the integration of illegal migrants, demand that Vahe Petoyan, 39, not be deportated from France.

Petoyan was detained for violating parking rules in front of the police department in the city of Angoulême, Charente Libre writes.

French activists intervened on his behalf: they staged a picket outside the police department, and then met with local officials, but useless. Now Vahe is in the center for persons under administrative arrest in Toulouse, meanwhile the Armenian consulate is drawing up a reference on his citizenship. After getting that reference, the French authorities will be able to deport him, representative of Baobab association, Marie-Line Kasmi-Giraud noted.

According to her, Petoyan—a baker by profession—has a wife and three children. The elder girl cries and cannot sleep at night: she is under doctor’s control. His wife, Roza, also feels bad. The whole family is well integrated in the local community, the representative added.

Earlier, prior to the incident, Petoyan filed an application claiming for a political asylum, which should be considered by the court, the activist said.

“In fact, the application should be considered, even if Petoyan is deported to Armenia because in his country he faces real danger,” she stressed.

It remains unclear what danger the illegal migrant faces in his homeland.
