STEPANAKERT. – Armenian military serviceman Garik Vardanyan (born in 1996), who was severely wounded by the adversary, died on Sunday at 11:35pm, at the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Central Clinical Military Hospital, in capital city Yerevan.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) Defense Army informed about the aforesaid in a statement.

Vardanyan was severely wounded on December 30, 2016, as a result of the Azerbaijani armed forces’ ceasefire violation in a northeasterly direction of the Karabakh-Azerbaijan line of contact. Subsequently, he was helicoptered from NKR capital city Stepanakert Military Hospital to Yerevan.

The serviceman was to be discharged from the army on Tuesday.

Garik Vardanyan was from Aygestan village of Armenia’s Ararat Province.
