YEREVAN. – The situation at the Karabakh conflict zone may aggravate just as in April 2016, Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan, said at a press conference on Monday.

In his words, however, everything depends on the economic situation and oil prices.

“I don’t think anything will change in the Karabakh conflict negotiation process,” noted Iskandaryan. “The OSCE [i.e. the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Minsk Group is actually engaged in attempts to reduce the level of violence, and not conflict resolution.”

The analyst added, however, that there are no considerable opportunities to rule out violence.

“There definitely be will be sabotage, but I don’t expect a full-scale war,” noted Alexander Iskandaryan. “At any rate, Azerbaijan’s strategy of exhausting the adversary (Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh) may continue.”
