Armenian Ambassador to Lithuania, Tigran Mkrtchyan, on Tuesday met with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs of Lithuanian Seimas, Juozas Bernatonis.

At the outset of the meeting, Mkrtchyan congratulated Mr Bernatonis on his new appointment and wished him fruitful activity.

Juozas Bernatonis, for his part, noted that the political relations between the two countries are at a high level and that historically the relations of the Lithuanian and Armenian peoples are based on deep respect. He also added that the bilateral economic ties between the countries have apparently grown in the recent years. Furthermore, the Lithuanian official underscored the active role of the Armenian community of Lithuania.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan noted that it is necessary to give a new impetus to the economic relations, creating conditions for expanding them to which the Chairman said that considering the fact that the friendship group with Armenia is one of the biggest ones in the Lithuanian Seimas, it is necessary to take advantage of this opportunity and deepen the parliamentary relations as well.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan also presented the key priorities of the foreign policy of Armenia, as well as the recent developments round the Karabakh conflict.

Juozas Bernatonis reconfirmed that the stance of Lithuania on the Karabakh conflict resolution is in line with that of the EU. He also expressed hope that the talks held on the framework agreement will successfully end in near future.
