Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh has declared a 90-day national state of emergency, a day before his official mandate ends, reports BBC. The leaders of the neighboring countries are trying to make Jammeh hand over power to the candidate who won the presidential elections last December, Adama Barrow.

The decision of the state of emergency was made, after Nigeria had approached its military ship to Gambia's coasts, trying to put pressure on Jammeh. The West African countries mobilized their forces, but they announced, that the military intervention could be possible in an extreme case only.
