Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurt intends to strengthen the OSCE's activities for solving the Ukrainian issue, reports Deutsche Welle. OSCE observers will receive more than 700 additional technical means in the eastern Ukraine; their mission in the region will be extended.

Kurt thanked the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who chaired the OSCE last year, and praised the German mediated initiatives. "The situation today is better than before," said Kurt and added that Austria will try to keep those small steps to resolve the conflict.

In his opinion, the main issue in the Ukraine issue is the lack of confidence. He considers, that the OSCE needs to form confidence as a prerequisite to the success of the mediation mission. "Ukraine does not trust Russia, whereas Moscow has an impression, that Europe and the EU are not interested in good relations with Russia, but only in resolving the issue, "he said.
