YEREVAN. - The Armenian Police held a board session on Wednesday.

Speaking at the session, Chief of Armenian Police, Vladimir Gasparyan, noted that progress has been recorded in the relations between the Traffic Police officers and citizens, the agency's press-service informed Armenian News – NEWS.am.

First Deputy Chief of Police, Hunan Poghosyan, made a summary report. In his words, the overall number of crimes has grown by 10.1 percent. The Police tend to explain this by taking into account the cases not considered before.

At the same time, the crime detection rate grew by 2.8 percent, including by 7.5 and 6.3 percent in case of extremely grievous and grave crimes respectively.

In 2016, 66 murders were registered, of which 75.8 percent were solved, this being 4.6 percent more than during last year. 62.5 percent of the unsolved crimes relate to missing persons.

Apart from this, the number of crimes committed by firearms has dropped, their detection rate having grown (from 81.2 to 87.7 percent).

Number of traffic accidents also reduced by 196 during the reporting period, the number of casualties and wounded declining by 80 and 286 accordingly.
