Senegal suspended a military operation in the Gambia which began on January 19 to resolve presidential crisis.

African forces will make the last attempt to settle a situation  through international facilitation, BBC reported. New mediation talks will be held on Friday and will be led by Guinean president Alpha Condé as negotiations between leaving president of Gambia and president of Mauritania ended in deadlock.

Earlier it was reported that Senegalese troops have entered Gambia to ensure Adama Barrow assumes power as the country's new president.

The 15 member stated of the UN Security Council unanimously backed regional efforts to ensure a handover of power in The Gambia, throwing its full weight behind newly-inaugurated President Adama Barrow in the escalating standoff.
