US President Donald Trump signed a decree, appointing the retired General James Mattis as US defense minister. It is the first decree, that Trump issued after his inauguration speech, reports Lenta, referring to ABC News video.

As reported earlier, the US Senate Committee on Armed Services announced, that Russia considered to be the major threat to the US. Trump suggested the candidacy of Mattis for the chief of Pentagon back in December 2016.
