Russian political analyst Aleksey Malashenko believes that Armenian society’s indignation at the fact that Russia is selling weapons to Azerbaijan is justified, 168Zham newspaper writes.

However, Russia has not assumed obligation not to sell weapon, especially when arms sales to countries involved in this conflict is the essence of Russian policy, and especially when Russia gets large amounts from arms sale, he believes.

“Russia has been selling weapons to the conflicting parties in an attempt not to give advantage to any party and at the same time making it clear that it was not in favor of any part’s victory. In this case Russia will be guided by its national interests, the interests of maintaining Russian presence in the South Caucasus, and even strengthening it,” Malashenko told 168Zham.

Russian military analyst Pavel Felgenhauer is confident that relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan are important, as Russia needs not individual countries, but the entire South Caucasus. He believes that Moscow is adequately assessing maneuver capabilities on the part of Armenia and Azerbaijan, although “in case of Armenia the capabilities are rather limited”.
