YEREVAN. – At the initial phase of his US presidency, Donald Trump will give the post-Soviet space and the South Caucasus to Russia, in some sense.

Armenia-based Analytical Centre on Globalization and Regional Cooperation Director, political scientist Stepan Grigoryan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, Trump will take unpredictable steps, and much will depend on whether or not he will listen to his team.

In the analyst’s conviction, the new US president will not work actively with the EU and NATO.

“If he wants to find common ground with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin—whereas his conditions will be tough, it’s not ruled out that the US role in the post-Soviet space will weaken in the first phase of Trump’s presidency,” stressed Grigoryan. “It means that this will pose a threat also for Armenia.”
