YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan was not put on the proportional election list of the MP candidates of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), for the upcoming parliamentary election, and due to the permanent residency requirement.

RPA MP Gagik Minasyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday.

Minasyan, however, did not go into details.

And when the respective question was repeated, he responded: “Well, of course.”

Prior to the publicizing of the proportional electoral lists for the National Assembly elections to be held in April, there were debates in the media as to whether Karapetyan will be included in the list of the ruling political force.

The PM, however, has not permanently resided in Armenia over the past four years—which the country’s election law requires for an MP candidate, and this has become the reason for his not being put on the RPA list.
