YEREVAN. – Reaching agreement between Russia and Georgia over unlocking the Trans-Caucasus transport communications is quite real, economist Tatul Manaseryan said during a discussion on “The New Russian-Georgian agreement:  will Armenia have an alternative route to  Russia?”

“That’s not news. Unfortunately we have lost many years: I mean, as a result of the confrontation between Russia and Georgia, Armenia’s economy has suffered. As the contours of mutually beneficial cooperation between Georgia and Iran are already visible, it is necessary to conduct pro-active economic policy,” Manasaryan said.

All countries in the region, continued economist, must be integrated: Georgia, Armenia, Iran and Russia must look for ways of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Although a preliminary agreement to continue negotiations is reached between Georgia and Russia, he added, there are other regional players who can enrich these agreements.

Georgia and Russia have recently reached a preliminary agreement on the need of unlocking the Trans-Caucasus transport communications. Agreement was reached according to the results of the recent meeting between Russia’s deputy foreign minister Grigory Karasin and Georgian PM’s special representative on relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze.
