YEREVAN. – President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, on Tuesday received Egyptian Ambassador Tareq Maaty.

First, Sahakyan noted that Armenia and Egypt have historical similarities and friendly traditions, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. In his words, Armenia will always continue its effective cooperation with Egypt.

The NA speaker also underscored the development of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

In addition, Galust Sahakyan expressed his gratitude to the House of Representatives of Egypt, for its ongoing activities toward the recognition and condemnation of Armenian Genocide.

The Armenian NA leader expressed a conviction that Armenian-Egyptian parliamentary collaboration will enter a new phase, after the forthcoming parliamentary election in Armenia.

Also, Galust Sahakyan expressed the hope that the Egyptian ambassador’s activities will promote Armenian-Egyptian relations. Furthermore, he appreciated Egypt’s balanced position on key issues for Armenia.

Ambassador Maaty, for his part, noted that Egypt follows the ongoing democratic process in Armenia with great joy. In his words, Armenian-Egyptian relations have become closer thanks to the Armenian community of Egypt.

Also, the Egyptian diplomat expressed the hope that the upcoming parliamentary election in Armenia will be conducted in accordance with the principles of democracy, and that an Armenian-Egyptian Friendship Group will be formed also in the new Armenian NA.

In addition, Tareq Maaty underscored the drawing of the Egyptian society’s attention on the matter of recognition of Armenian Genocide, since they realize its importance for the Armenian people.
