An Austrian appeals court approved the extradition of the Ukrainian oligarch Dmitry Firtash to the US. Vienna’s Higher Regional Court overturned a 2015 lower-court ruling that had blocked the extradition of the businessman.

If the US court finds Firtash guilty, he will face 50 years’ imprisonment along with confiscation of his assets, reports DW.

Austrian prosecutor's office argues, that the accused led a conspiracy to pay $18.5 million to Indian officials to facilitate a $500 million titanium project there for further selling the final products to the US. According to them, in case of Firtash the political "cover" is missing. The prosecution continues insisting, that such operations are under the jurisdiction of Austria and the United States.
