Bavaria introduced a bill to ban a full-face veil and niqab. The ban will be in effect in schools, universities, workplaces, and while driving, reports BBC.

“Communication happens not only via language but also looks, facial expressions and gestures," said the Interior Minister of Bavaria Joachim Herrmann. According to him the practice of covering the face contradicts to the communication culture that exists in Germany. Communication is the "foundation of our interactions with each other and it's the basis of our free and democratic order", Mr Herrmann said.

The opponents of the ban, on the contrary insist, taht it will have little impact the small Muslim population in Bavaria. According to them, by this step the regional government is eyeing the upcoming elections.
