STEPANAKERT. – The European Parliament must react strongly to the inroads by Azerbaijani authorities, stated Davit Babayan, Head of the Central Information Department of the Office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) President and Deputy Dead of the NKR President’s Office.

Babayan noted the aforesaid commenting—at the request of Armenian News-NEWS.am—on Baku’s most recent “initiative,” according to which, supposedly, it has declared a search—by Interpol—for three European Parliament members (MEPs) that have visited Artsakh.

He stressed that after the developments in connection with Israeli Russian blogger Alexander Lapshin, who was extradited to Azerbaijan for visiting Karabakh, the number of people wishing to visit the NKR has increased dramatically.

“An unprecedented number of international observers—from Bolivia to Japan and Pakistan—have taken part [as observers] in the referendum [on Monday] on constitutional amendments [in Artsakh],” added Babayan.

In his words, however, the present-day abnormal situation in Azerbaijan is to some extent a consequence of the passive position of the international community.

“After the arrest of Lapshin, we witnessed an absence of [respective] reaction by European institutions, including the European Parliament,” recalled the head of the Central Information Department of the Office of the NKR President and deputy head of the NKR President’s Office. “Azerbaijan is a terrorist state.”

Davit Babayan stressed that the said MEPs have immunity, they are bearers of European values, and they have done nothing objectionable.
