YEREVAN. – National Assembly (NA) of Armenia Vice President and Head of the Armenian NA Delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Hermine Naghdalyan, as well as delegation members Naira Zohrabyan, Mikayel Melkumyan, and Samvel Farmanyan on Thursday met with members of the visiting PACE observation mission.

This PACE delegation is monitoring the preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary election in Armenia, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The constitutional reform and the amendments made to the Electoral Code of Armenia were at the core of this talk.

Naghdalyan underscored the role of observation missions during the elections and referendums being conducted in Armenia. She noted that the objective of Armenian authorities is to hold legitimate, fair, and free elections. In addition, she presented in detail the fundamental amendments that were made to the Electoral Code.

The head of the PACE delegation, Liliane Maury Pasquier, in turn, informed that they already had several talks, during which there were complaints with respect to some articles of the Electoral Code, especially regarding the rating electoral procedure; that is, regional electoral lists. And the guests asked whether the existence of this system is justified in a small country like Armenia.

Armenian MPs Zohrabyan, Melkumyan, and Farmanyan expressed their view in connection with the abovementioned and several other matters.
