YEREVAN. – President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, on Thursday received members of the visiting Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) delegation that conducts observation mission.

This PACE delegation is in Armenia to monitor the preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary election in the country, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

First, the speaker of the Armenian parliament underscored these guests’ visit to Armenia in the lead-up to the aforesaid election, which is slated for April 2. Sahakyan assured that the upcoming parliamentary election will be free, fair and transparent, and it will meet democratic standards.

Reflecting on the constitutional reforms Armenia has conducted, Galust Sahakyan noted that the country’s authorities have always collaborated with PACE when making legislative changes, ever since 1995. The head of the Armenian NA also spoke about the discussions and ensuing adoption of the new Electoral Code of the country.

The head of the aforementioned PACE delegation, Liliane Maury Pasquier, for her part, noted that during the talks held these days, they already had received the necessary information on the forthcoming parliamentary election. In her words, this election will be a major challenge for Armenian authorities, and  in terms of boosting the people’s trust in the electoral processes in Armenia.

At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed several other matters as well.
