YEREVAN. – The European Union is optimistic about the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, the citizens will go to election with a belief that their vote will be registered this time, head of EU delegation to Armenia Piotr Switalski said.

He said civil society engagement is very important for the upcoming elections. The diplomat presented the assistance provided by the European Union: over seven million euro for organization of the events, and almost four million euro for equippment to establish identity of the voters.

According to the Ambassador, the allocated amount is smaller than the amount allocated under the previous program.

“Much of what we have done over the past 12 months, cannot be expressed in numbers. Of course, we would not have done so if we were not confident that the elections would be held at a higher level than the previous ones. This does not mean that they will be perfect, it is impossible to forecast everything, but at the moment we are optimistic,” he added.
