The Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues will exert every effort for the U.S to have active economic relations with Armenia, thereby also reducing the economic and political dependence on Russia.

Congressman Adam Schiff said the aforementioned in an interview with Voice of America.

According to him, the current administration has expressed no precise stance on the relations with the South Caucasus states. The Congressman also expressed concern about the fact that Donald Trump has business interests in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that President Trump will make decisions based on the relations with those countries.

Referring to the current stage of Karabakh conflict settlement, Adam Schiff noted that all the cases of ceasefire violation are unacceptable. In his words, it is necessary to increase the pressure on Azerbaijan in order to reduce the anti-Armenian manifestations. The Congressman continues supporting the introduction of a monitoring device all along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Apart from this, Schiff noted that the members of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues are going to urge the US President to recognize the Armenian Genocide: A new resolution will soon be introduced.

The Congressman also stressed that the resignation of Mike Flynn is a positive step in terms of the Armenian Genocide recognition, since the latter had economic interests with Turkey, his positions being very disturbing.

Furthermore, he added that it is a wonderful opportunity to have a president, who never talked about this issue in the past and can now express a precise stance and recognize the Armenian Genocide. Influential figures of the Armenian community in U.S. should also urge the President to recognize the Genocide, Schiff concluded, assuring that in the future he will again spare no effort to solve the issues of concern to Armenians.
