YEREVAN. – This was the decision of the Republic of Armenia itself. Furthermore, Armenia itself shall decide on the matters regarding its economic structure.

European Parliament member (MEP) Frank Engel (Luxembourg) told the aforesaid to 168 Zham (Hour) newspaper of Armenia, when asked to what extent Armenia will be able to implement the reforms that are proposed under the new framework agreement which regulates Armenia-European Union (EU) relations, considering the incompatibility of the system of values of the EU and the—Russia-led—Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which Armenia is a member in.

Engel said what is important at present is that we take the tools that are available and which we can best apply; that is, as per the MEP, we need to benefit from the opportunities, and this will be beneficial for both sides.

In his words, however, the aforementioned framework agreement is not the document that could have been, had Armenia not joined the EAEU.

But in Frank Engel conviction, Russia will not cause problems on the road to signing this agreement, since the respective talks had begun with Moscow’s knowledge and with the EU’s knowledge that Armenia is an EAEU member.
