YEREVAN. – Elections held according to good standards will open new possibilities of cooperation between Armenia and EU. EU will consider how to increase its assistance in term of money and project, and good elections will boost relations with Armenia, head of EU delegation Piotr Switalski told reporters on Thursday.

He said a detailed technical action is needed before the framework agreement between Armenia and EU is signed.

“Lengthy period of examining the text from legal and technical point of view, and it will take months. It will be signed only after the clear approval of the EU Council. I cannot specify the date of signing but I encourage to look to previous experience, sometimes the period is very long, in case of Kazakhstan it took more than a year,” the Ambassador said.

However, signing of the agreement is not linked to the elections, the head of EU delegation emphasized.

“But of course, the climate for the implementation will depend on how democratic processes and economic reforms are proceeding in Armenia. The more democracy and economic freedom, the more European reforms, the better climate for our cooperation. It is clear,” Mr. Switalski said.
