UN Human rights activists have urged the Philippine senators not to pass the law of the death penalty, informs the UN radio. The document suggests to restore the death penalty for drug related offenses.

The document has been approved by the lower house of the parliament, and is now scheduled for a vote in the Senate. However, by so far there have been carried out discussions at the level of the sub-committee only, which consider the Philippines' international obligations.

Philippines banned the death penalty in 2006. The UN recalls, that the death penalty is possible only in case of the most serious crimes, such as a premeditated murder. The drugs-related offenses do not belong to the category of such crimes.
