STEPANAKERT. – The US visit by the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic/NKR) Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman), Ruben Melikyan, is still in progress.

Ever since March 8, Melikyan had 33 events—including seven public speeches—in New York City, Boston, Providence, and Washington D.C., the human rights defender’s staff informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Also, the Artsakh Ombudsman met with Congressmen David Valadao, Adam Schiff, Jim McGovern and David Cicilline, and presented his concerns regarding human rights.

In particular, they discussed the atrocities which the Azerbaijani armed forces committed during the brief war they had unleashed against the NKR in early April 2016, and the case involving Israeli Russian blogger and journalist Alexander Lapshin who had visited Karabakh and is now under arrest in Azerbaijan.
